He was born on August 9, 1941, in Meridian, Mississippi, and grew up in a family that valued music. His father was a church choir director, and his mother was a pianist. Alexander's love for music began at an early age, and he started singing in his church choir when he was just six years old. Alexander's talent was evident from a young age, and he went on to study music at the University of Southern Mississippi. He later earned a Master's degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois. Alexander's passion for music led him to pursue a career in conducting, and he quickly established himself as a talented and respected conductor. One of the highlights of Alexander's career was his tenure as the conductor of the Pacific Chorale. He served as the artistic director of the choir for over 45 years, and during that time, he led the choir to numerous accolades and awards. Under Alexander's leadership, the Pacific Chorale became one of the most respected and renowned choirs in the world. Alexander's talent as a conductor was recognized by many, and he was invited to conduct some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and choirs. He conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others.
