Don Aliquo is a renowned saxophonist and educator in the world of classical music. Born in 1960 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Aliquo grew up in a musical family and began playing the saxophone at the age of 10. He was inspired by his father, who was a jazz pianist, and his mother, who was a singer. Aliquo attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in saxophone performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Miami in Florida. During his time in Miami, Aliquo had the opportunity to study with renowned saxophonist Gary Keller, who had a profound impact on his playing and teaching style. After completing his studies, Aliquo began his career as a professional musician, performing with a variety of jazz and classical ensembles. He quickly gained a reputation as a versatile and skilled saxophonist, and was soon in demand as a performer and recording artist. Throughout his career, Aliquo has performed with some of the biggest names in jazz and classical music, including Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He has also recorded several albums as a solo artist, including his critically acclaimed 2010 release, "Jazz Folk." In addition to his work as a performer, Aliquo is also a highly respected educator. He has taught at several universities, including the University of Pittsburgh and Middle Tennessee State University, where he currently serves as a professor of jazz saxophone. He is known for his innovative teaching methods and his ability to inspire and motivate his students. Over the course of his career, Aliquo has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2009, he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Duquesne University, and in 2012 he was awarded the Jazz Education Network's LeJENd of Jazz Education Award. He has also been recognized for his work as a composer and arranger, and has received commissions from a variety of organizations and ensembles. Despite his many accomplishments, Aliquo remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
