Period:ContemporaryMixtura is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for creating innovative and exciting performances. The ensemble is based in New York City and is made up of six core members, each of whom brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the group. The founding members of Mixtura are violinist Sarah Johnson, cellist David Lee, pianist Emily Chen, clarinetist Michael Davis, flutist Rachel Kim, and percussionist John Smith. All of these musicians had previously performed with other ensembles and orchestras, but they came together to form Mixtura with the goal of exploring new and unconventional approaches to classical music. From the beginning, Mixtura set itself apart from other classical music ensembles by incorporating a wide range of musical styles and genres into its performances. The group's repertoire includes everything from traditional classical pieces to contemporary works, as well as jazz, folk, and world music. One of the highlights of Mixtura's early career was its performance at the 2016 Chamber Music America Conference in New York City. The group's dynamic and engaging performance earned them a standing ovation from the audience and helped to establish them as one of the most exciting new ensembles in the classical music world. Since then, Mixtura has gone on to perform at a number of prestigious venues and events, including the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the National Sawdust music venue in Brooklyn. The group has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and artists, including the acclaimed composer and pianist Vijay Iyer. In addition to its live performances, Mixtura has also released several recordings, including its debut album, "Mixtura: Live at National Sawdust," which was released in 2018. The album features a mix of original compositions and arrangements of classical and contemporary pieces, and showcases the group's unique blend of musical styles and influences. Mixtura has received a number of awards and accolades for its innovative and exciting performances. In 2017, the group was awarded the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant, which allowed them to collaborate with the Brooklyn-based dance company Urban Bush Women on a new performance piece. The group has also been featured in a number of publications, including The New York Times, which praised their "adventurous programming and virtuosic playing." Despite its relatively short history, Mixtura has already established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music ensembles in the world. With its unique blend of musical styles and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of classical music, the group is sure to continue to captivate audiences for years to come.More....
