The Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Fort Worth, Texas. The orchestra was founded in 1960 by a group of local musicians who wanted to create a professional-level ensemble that would bring high-quality classical music to the Fort Worth community. The founding members of the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra included a number of prominent musicians, including violinist and conductor John Giordano, cellist and conductor Eugene Jones, and pianist and conductor John Giordano Jr. Over the years, the orchestra has had a number of different members, but it has always maintained a commitment to excellence and a dedication to bringing the best in classical music to audiences in Fort Worth and beyond. One of the highlights of the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra's history was its performance at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The orchestra was selected to perform at the opening ceremonies of the games, and its performance was widely praised for its energy, precision, and artistry. The orchestra has also performed at a number of other prestigious venues and events, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. In addition to its performances, the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra has also received a number of awards and honors over the years. In 1990, the orchestra was awarded the Texas Medal of Arts, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the arts in Texas. The orchestra has also been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and has received numerous grants and awards from other organizations. Today, the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra continues to be a vital part of the Fort Worth arts community. The orchestra performs a wide range of classical music, from Baroque and Classical works to contemporary compositions.
