Music Lab Collective is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2014 by a group of young musicians who were passionate about exploring new ways of presenting classical music to audiences. The ensemble is made up of a core group of musicians who are all graduates of the Royal Academy of Music in London, and who have gone on to establish successful careers as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral players. The founding members of Music Lab Collective were violinist Rakhi Singh, cellist Bartholomew LaFollette, pianist Tom Poster, and conductor Timothy Redmond. They were joined by a number of other musicians, including clarinetist Matthew Hunt, violist Ruth Gibson, and percussionist Joby Burgess, among others. The ensemble's aim was to create innovative and immersive performances that would engage audiences in new ways, and to explore the boundaries between classical music and other genres. One of the ensemble's early highlights was a performance of Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" at the Roundhouse in London in 2015. The performance was staged as a multi-disciplinary event, with dancers, visual artists, and lighting designers all contributing to the overall experience. The performance was widely praised for its energy and creativity, and helped to establish Music Lab Collective as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music ensembles in the UK. Since then, Music Lab Collective has gone on to perform at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The ensemble has also collaborated with a wide range of artists from other genres, including jazz musicians, electronic music producers, and visual artists. One of the ensemble's most notable collaborations was with the electronic music producer and DJ, Matthew Herbert. In 2017, Music Lab Collective and Herbert collaborated on a project called "The State Between Us", which explored the theme of Brexit through music and sound. The project involved a series of live performances, as well as a studio album, and was widely praised for its originality and political relevance. Music Lab Collective has also been recognized for its innovative approach to classical music performance, and has won a number of awards and accolades. In 2016, the ensemble won the Royal Philharmonic Society's "Young Artists Award", which recognizes outstanding young musicians and ensembles. The following year, Music Lab Collective was awarded the "Ensemble of the Year" award at the Royal Academy of Music's annual prize-giving ceremony. Despite its success, Music Lab Collective remains committed to its original mission of exploring new ways of presenting classical music to audiences. The ensemble continues to experiment with different genres and art forms, and to push the boundaries of what is possible in classical music performance. With its innovative approach and talented musicians, Music Lab Collective is sure to remain one of the most exciting and dynamic classical music ensembles in the world.
