One of Karp's most notable performances was his 1962 debut at Carnegie Hall, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. Karp also had a successful career as a recording artist, and he recorded for several major labels, including RCA Victor, Columbia, and Vox. His recordings of the complete piano works of Chopin and Brahms are considered to be among the finest interpretations of these composers' works. In addition to his performing career, Karp was also a dedicated music educator.
