Artist Info
Jakob Henriques was born on May 12, 1985, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned cellist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Jakob showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Jakob's talent was quickly recognized, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He won his first competition at the age of eight and went on to win several more throughout his childhood. At the age of 12, Jakob was accepted into the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned violinist Nikolaj Znaider. During his time at the academy, Jakob continued to excel, winning several awards and competitions. In 2004, he won first prize at the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition, which launched his career as a professional musician. Jakob's talent and dedication to his craft quickly earned him a reputation as one of the most promising young violinists of his generation. He began performing with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Jakob's most memorable performances was his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in 2008. He performed Brahms' Violin Concerto to critical acclaim, with the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant describing his performance as "a revelation." In addition to his performances with orchestras, Jakob also established himself as a soloist, performing recitals in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Jakob's talent and hard work were recognized with several awards throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise for the future. He was also awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2012, which provides financial support and career development opportunities to exceptional young musicians. Despite his success, Jakob remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to study and refine his technique, working with some of the world's leading violinists, including Maxim Vengerov and Itzhak Perlman. Tragically, Jakob's promising career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. Despite undergoing treatment, Jakob passed away on June 15, 2016, at the age of 31. Jakob's legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him perform. He was a true artist, dedicated to his craft and passionate about sharing his love of music with the world. His talent and dedication will continue to inspire future generations of musicians for years to come.More....
