Alexandra Soumm is a French violinist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and passionate interpretations of classical music. Born on May 9, 1989, in Moscow, Russia, Soumm grew up in a family of musicians. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a conductor. At the age of four, Soumm began playing the violin, and by the age of six, she had already given her first public performance. Soumm's family moved to France when she was eight years old, and she continued her musical studies at the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris. She later studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she was a student of Boris Garlitsky. Soumm also studied with Zakhar Bron, a renowned violin teacher who has trained many of the world's top violinists. Soumm's talent as a violinist was evident from a young age, and she quickly began to make a name for herself in the classical music world. In 2004, at the age of 15, she won first prize at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition, which was held in Lucerne, Switzerland. This prestigious competition is open to musicians under the age of 19 from European countries that are members of the European Broadcasting Union. Soumm's win at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition helped to launch her career as a professional violinist. She began to perform regularly in Europe and Asia, and she quickly gained a reputation for her passionate and expressive playing. In 2007, she made her debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, where she performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Orchestre National de France. Since then, Soumm has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also collaborated with many of the world's top conductors, including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov, and Paavo Järvi. Soumm's repertoire is wide-ranging, and she is equally at home performing works by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven as she is performing contemporary works by living composers. She has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. In addition to her work as a soloist, Soumm is also a passionate chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's top chamber ensembles, including the Jerusalem Quartet, the Modigliani Quartet, and the Trio Wanderer. She is also the founder and artistic director of the Festival Les Vacances de Monsieur Haydn, which takes place every summer in the south of France. She is known for her ability to connect with audiences and to bring out the beauty and meaning of the music she performs. Her playing has been described as "intensely expressive" and "full of passion and fire." Soumm has received many awards and honors throughout her career.
