Eric Levionnois is a renowned French cellist who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on December 22, 1973, in Paris, France, Levionnois grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Levionnois was exposed to classical music and began playing the cello at the age of six. Levionnois received his early musical education at the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris, where he studied under the tutelage of Philippe Muller. He later went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he was a student of Michel Strauss. Levionnois also studied with renowned cellists such as Heinrich Schiff, Frans Helmerson, and Janos Starker. Levionnois made his debut as a soloist at the age of 16, performing the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre de Paris, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Levionnois has also performed in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Sir Simon Rattle, and Zubin Mehta. In addition to his solo career, Levionnois is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Ébène Quartet, the Quatuor Modigliani, and the Trio Wanderer. Levionnois is also a member of the Trio Les Esprits, which he founded in 2003 with pianist Adam Laloum and violinist Mi-Sa Yang. Levionnois has won many awards throughout his career, including the Grand Prix du Concours International de Violoncelle Rostropovitch Paris in 1997, the Prix de la Fondation Charles Oulmont in 1998, and the Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2003. He was also awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2011. Levionnois is known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he performs. He is particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. Levionnois is also a champion of contemporary music and has premiered many works by contemporary composers. In addition to his performing career, Levionnois is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He is currently a professor of cello at the Haute École de Musique de Genève in Switzerland.
