She was the daughter of Russian immigrants who had a great passion for music. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. Giannina Russ grew up in a musical family, and she started playing the piano at a very young age. Giannina Russ's talent was evident from a young age, and she was soon recognized as a prodigy. She began performing in public at the age of six and made her debut with the New York Philharmonic at the age of nine. She continued to perform in concerts and recitals throughout her childhood and teenage years. In 1941, Giannina Russ won the prestigious Naumburg Piano Competition, which launched her career as a professional musician. She went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Giannina Russ was known for her virtuosity and her ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. She was particularly renowned for her performances of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. Her recordings of these composers' works are still considered some of the best ever made. One of the highlights of Giannina Russ's career was her performance at the White House for President John F. Kennedy in 1962. She played a program of classical music, which included works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy. The performance was broadcast on national television and was watched by millions of people. Giannina Russ was also a dedicated teacher and taught at the Juilliard School in New York City for many years.
