Artist Info
Jan Zverina was born on May 12, 1985, in Prague, Czech Republic. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Zverina showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Zverina's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed his skills. By the age of ten, Zverina had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a prodigious young talent. In 1996, Zverina was accepted into the Prague Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and pedagogue Ivan Klansky. During his time at the conservatory, Zverina honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. He also began performing in public, giving recitals and playing with orchestras. Zverina's talent did not go unnoticed, and he soon began receiving invitations to perform at major music festivals and competitions around the world. In 2003, he won first prize at the International Piano Competition in San Marino, Italy, and in 2005, he was a finalist at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. Zverina's career continued to flourish, and he became known for his virtuosic performances and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Czech Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Zverina's most memorable performances was his rendition of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising Zverina's technical prowess and his ability to convey the emotional intensity of the music. Zverina's talent and hard work were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and in 2012, he was named a Steinway Artist, joining the ranks of some of the world's most celebrated pianists. Despite his success, Zverina remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours every day, always striving to improve his technique and interpretation of the music. He also remained committed to sharing his love of music with others, teaching masterclasses and working with young musicians. Tragically, Zverina's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. Despite undergoing treatment, his health continued to deteriorate, and he passed away on June 15, 2016, at the age of 31. Zverina's legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him play. He will be remembered as a brilliant pianist and a true artist, whose passion for music inspired and touched the hearts of countless people around the world.More....
