Edgaras Montvidas is a Lithuanian tenor who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on May 22, 1980, in Vilnius, Lithuania, Montvidas grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Montvidas showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Montvidas began his musical education at the National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Art in Vilnius, where he studied piano and singing. He later went on to study at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he received a Bachelor's degree in singing. He continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands, where he earned a Master's degree in opera singing. Montvidas made his professional debut in 2005, singing the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence, and he was soon invited to perform at some of the world's most prestigious opera houses. One of Montvidas' most notable performances was his portrayal of Don Ottavio in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" at the Royal Opera House in London in 2014. The production was directed by Kasper Holten and conducted by Nicola Luisotti, and it received critical acclaim for its innovative staging and powerful performances. Montvidas' rendition of the aria "Il mio tesoro" was particularly praised for its beauty and emotional depth. Montvidas has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and the Teatro Real in Madrid, among others. He has also appeared at major music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. In 2007, he won first prize at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, one of the most prestigious competitions for young opera singers. He was also a finalist in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2009. Montvidas' recordings have also received critical acclaim. His album "Mozart Arias" was released in 2015 and features some of Mozart's most beloved arias, including "Un'aura amorosa" from "Così fan tutte" and "Dalla sua pace" from "Don Giovanni." The album was praised for Montvidas' beautiful voice and sensitive interpretations of the music. Montvidas is known for his versatility as a performer, with a repertoire that spans from Baroque to contemporary music. He is particularly admired for his interpretations of Mozart and other composers of the Classical period.
