He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a professional trumpet player and his mother a music teacher. Morris attended the University of North Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School in New York City. During his time at Juilliard, Morris studied under the tutelage of Mark Gould, a renowned trumpet player and former member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
