Quatuor Thaïs is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 in Paris, France. The group is composed of four talented musicians who share a passion for chamber music and have dedicated their careers to performing and promoting this genre of music. The founding members of Quatuor Thaïs are violinists Sarah Nemtanu and Deborah Nemtanu, violist Lise Berthaud, and cellist Marie Chilemme. All four musicians had already established successful solo careers before coming together to form the ensemble, and their individual talents and experiences have contributed to the group's unique sound and style. Quatuor Thaïs takes its name from the French novel "Thaïs" by Anatole France, which tells the story of a courtesan who renounces her sinful ways and becomes a devout Christian. Since its founding, Quatuor Thaïs has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia, earning critical acclaim for their virtuosic playing and innovative programming. The group has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians and composers, including pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, cellist Gautier Capuçon, and composer Philippe Hersant. One of the highlights of Quatuor Thaïs' career was their performance at the 2014 Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence, France. The group was invited to perform alongside renowned pianist Martha Argerich, and their performance of Schumann's Piano Quintet was hailed as one of the festival's standout performances. Quatuor Thaïs has also been recognized for their recordings, which showcase their versatility and range as musicians. Their debut album, "Mozart: String Quartets," was released in 2008 to critical acclaim, and subsequent albums have included works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel.
