Jack Richardson was a Canadian music producer, recording engineer, and musician who made significant contributions to the classical music industry. He was born on April 22, 1929, in Toronto, Canada, and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Richardson started playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. He attended the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he studied piano and music theory. After completing his studies, he began working as a session musician and played with various orchestras and ensembles. In the 1950s, Richardson started working as a recording engineer and producer. He worked with many famous artists, including The Guess Who, Alice Cooper, and Bob Seger. However, his passion for classical music never faded, and he continued to work with classical musicians throughout his career. One of Richardson's most significant achievements was his work on the album "Switched-On Bach" by Wendy Carlos. The album, which was released in 1968, was a groundbreaking work that used a Moog synthesizer to create electronic versions of Bach's music. Richardson was the recording engineer for the album, and his work helped to create a new genre of music that combined classical and electronic music. Richardson also worked with many famous classical musicians, including Glenn Gould, Yo-Yo Ma, and Itzhak Perlman. He produced many award-winning albums, including Gould's "Goldberg Variations" and Perlman's "Concertos from My Childhood." In addition to his work as a producer and recording engineer, Richardson was also a talented musician. He played the piano, organ, and harpsichord and often performed with various orchestras and ensembles. He was also a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and received many awards for his contributions to the music industry. Richardson passed away on May 13, 2011, at the age of 82. His legacy lives on through his many recordings and the musicians he worked with throughout his career. He will always be remembered as a pioneer in the classical music industry and a true master of his craft.
