Haruka Fujii is a Japanese classical percussionist who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born on December 28, 1988, in Tokyo, Japan, Fujii grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a classical pianist. From a young age, Fujii was exposed to music and began playing the piano at the age of three. However, it was not until she was in elementary school that Fujii discovered her love for percussion. She was introduced to the marimba by her music teacher and was immediately drawn to the instrument. Fujii began taking lessons and quickly excelled, winning her first competition at the age of 12. Fujii continued to study percussion throughout her school years and went on to attend the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she studied under renowned percussionist Keiko Abe. During her time at the university, Fujii honed her skills and developed her own unique style of playing. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Fujii began her professional career as a percussionist. She quickly gained recognition for her talent and was invited to perform at major music festivals around the world. In 2012, Fujii won first prize at the International Marimba Competition in Belgium, cementing her status as one of the world's top percussionists. Since then, Fujii has continued to perform at major music festivals and venues around the world. She has collaborated with some of the world's top orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic. In 2018, Fujii was invited to perform at the prestigious BBC Proms in London, where she received critical acclaim for her performance. Fujii's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Bach to contemporary composers. She is known for her ability to bring a unique and fresh perspective to classical music, often incorporating elements of jazz and other genres into her performances. In addition to her performances, Fujii is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at universities and music schools around the world, sharing her knowledge and passion for percussion with the next generation of musicians.
