His mother was a choir director, and his father was a pianist and organist. From a young age, Liverman was exposed to a variety of musical genres, including gospel, jazz, and classical music. Liverman began his formal music education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School in New York City. During his time at Juilliard, Liverman was a member of the prestigious Juilliard Opera Center, where he had the opportunity to work with some of the most renowned opera singers and coaches in the world. Liverman's career as a professional opera singer began in 2012, when he made his debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in the role of Jake in George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess." One of Liverman's most notable performances was his portrayal of Dizzy Gillespie in the world premiere of "Charlie Parker's Yardbird" at the Opera Philadelphia in 2015. The opera, which tells the story of jazz legend Charlie Parker, was written specifically for Liverman by composer Daniel Schnyder.
