Founded in 1960 by the German violinist and conductor, Emil Maas, the ensemble has become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber orchestras in the world. The ensemble's founding was inspired by Maas' desire to create a group of musicians who could perform chamber music with the highest level of artistry and precision. He handpicked some of the most talented musicians from the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he was a member, to form the ensemble. The original lineup consisted of six string players, including two violins, two violas, a cello, and a double bass. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone some changes in its membership, but it has always maintained its commitment to excellence in performance. Today, the Stuttgart Soloists is made up of 13 musicians, including six violins, two violas, two cellos, a double bass, a flute, and a harpsichord. The ensemble's current members are all accomplished musicians in their own right, with many of them having won prestigious awards and performed with some of the world's leading orchestras. The Stuttgart Soloists have performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with some of the most celebrated soloists of our time, including Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo-Yo Ma, and Itzhak Perlman. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. They were invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where they played a piece by the German composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. The performance was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world and helped to cement the ensemble's reputation as one of the world's leading chamber orchestras. The Stuttgart Soloists have also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1982, they were awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Mozart's Divertimento in D Major. They have also been awarded the Echo Klassik Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the classical music industry, on multiple occasions. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Stuttgart Soloists are also committed to music education and outreach. They regularly hold masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have also established a scholarship program to support young musicians in their studies. Overall, the Stuttgart Soloists have established themselves as one of the most respected and admired chamber orchestras in the world. Their commitment to excellence in performance, their collaborations with some of the world's leading soloists, and their dedication to music education and outreach have made them a beloved and influential ensemble in the classical music world.More....
