Henninge Landaas is a Norwegian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her exceptional talent and musicality. Born on May 12, 1985, in Bergen, Norway, Landaas showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Landaas received her first piano lessons from her mother and later studied with several renowned pianists, including Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, Håvard Gimse, and Leif Ove Andsnes. She also attended the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where she received a Bachelor's degree in piano performance. Landaas made her debut as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 16, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. This performance marked the beginning of her career as a concert pianist, and she quickly gained a reputation for her technical skill and musical sensitivity. Over the years, Landaas has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors, such as Mariss Jansons, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Sir Simon Rattle. One of Landaas's most notable performances was her debut at the BBC Proms in 2012, where she performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Her performance was widely praised by critics, who described it as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing." Landaas has also won several prestigious awards throughout her career. In 2007, she won the Grieg Competition in Bergen, Norway, and in 2010, she was awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which provides financial support and career guidance to exceptional young musicians. In addition to her career as a concert pianist, Landaas is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught at the Barratt Due Institute of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music, and she frequently gives masterclasses and workshops around the world. Landaas's repertoire is diverse and includes works by many of the great composers, such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Edvard Grieg, a fellow Norwegian composer whose music she has championed throughout her career. Landaas has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also recorded solo works by Grieg, as well as works by Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. Despite her success, Landaas remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform regularly and is always seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow as a musician. Her passion for music and her commitment to excellence have made her one of the most respected and admired pianists of her generation.
