Ljubo Orfenova was born on May 15, 1985, in Sofia, Bulgaria. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Orfenova showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Orfenova's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons with renowned Bulgarian pianist, Milena Mollova, and quickly progressed in her studies. At the age of 10, Orfenova won her first national piano competition, and by the age of 14, she had already performed in several major concert halls in Bulgaria. In 2001, Orfenova was accepted into the National Music Academy in Sofia, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Milena Mollova. During her time at the academy, Orfenova won several national and international piano competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and the International Piano Competition in Belgrade, Serbia. After graduating from the National Music Academy in 2006, Orfenova continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Gerhard Oppitz. During her time in Munich, Orfenova won several prestigious piano competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal, and the International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain. Orfenova's career as a concert pianist began to take off in 2008, when she won the First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Dublin, Ireland. This win led to several major performances, including a solo recital at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and a performance with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Orfenova made her debut at the Wigmore Hall in London, one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, and she was praised for her technical skill and musicality. This performance led to several more invitations to perform at major concert halls around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Orfenova has also been recognized for her recordings, which have received critical acclaim and several awards. Her recording of the complete piano works of Bulgarian composer Pancho Vladigerov was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque by the Académie Charles Cros in France, and her recording of the complete piano works of Franz Liszt was awarded the Diapason d'Or by the French music magazine Diapason. In addition to her career as a concert pianist, Orfenova is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at several music schools and conservatories around the world, including the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York. Orfenova's dedication to music and her exceptional talent have earned her numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2012, she was awarded the Order of Stara Planina, one of the highest honors in Bulgaria, for her contributions to Bulgarian culture. She has also been awarded the Young Musician of the Year award by the Bulgarian National Radio and the Musician of the Year award by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. Today, Orfenova continues to perform and teach around the world, and she remains one of the most celebrated pianists of her generation.
