Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1987 in Granollers, a city in Catalonia, Spain. The ensemble was established with the aim of promoting and performing chamber music, particularly works by Catalan composers. The founding members of the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers were a group of young musicians who had recently graduated from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona. They were led by the conductor and violinist Salvador Mas, who became the ensemble's first artistic director. Over the years, the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers has had a rotating cast of musicians, but it has always maintained a core group of players who have been with the ensemble for many years. Some of the main members of the ensemble have included Salvador Mas (violin), Lluís Castán (violin), Joan Enric Lluna (clarinet), and Albert Guinovart (piano). The Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers has performed extensively throughout Spain and Europe, as well as in Asia and the Americas. The ensemble has collaborated with many renowned soloists and conductors, including Jordi Savall, Montserrat Caballé, and Josep Pons. One of the highlights of the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers' career was its performance at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. The ensemble was chosen to represent Catalonia at the opening ceremony of the games, where they performed a piece by the Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge. The Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 1991, the ensemble won the National Prize for Music from the Generalitat de Catalunya, the autonomous government of Catalonia. In 2002, the ensemble was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Arts from the Spanish government. In addition to its performances, the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly offers workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and it has collaborated with schools and community organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience. Today, the Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers continues to be one of the leading chamber music ensembles in Spain. The ensemble's repertoire includes works from the Baroque era to the present day, with a particular emphasis on Catalan and Spanish composers. The Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers remains dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich tradition of chamber music, both in Catalonia and around the world.
