Role:EnsembleDuo Diorama is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 by violinist MingHuan Xu and pianist Winston Choi. The duo has gained international recognition for their dynamic performances and innovative programming. MingHuan Xu was born in China and began playing the violin at the age of four. She later studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School in New York City. Winston Choi was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Canada. He studied at the University of British Columbia and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. The two musicians met while studying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they both served on the faculty. They formed Duo Diorama with the goal of exploring the vast repertoire for violin and piano and bringing new works to audiences around the world. Duo Diorama has performed at major venues and festivals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. They have been featured on radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WQXR's "Young Artists Showcase." The duo has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, including composers, dancers, and visual artists. One of Duo Diorama's most notable performances was at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 2012. The duo performed a program of works by American composers, including John Adams, Aaron Copland, and Samuel Barber. The performance was part of the Kennedy Center's "Fortas Chamber Music Concerts" series and was praised by critics for its "virtuosity and sensitivity." Duo Diorama has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "The American Album," was released in 2012 and features works by American composers.
