Artist Info
Jean-Paul Boury was a French classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1950, in Paris, France. He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, so it was no surprise that Jean-Paul developed an interest in music at a young age. Jean-Paul began his musical education at the age of six when he started taking piano lessons. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and progressed rapidly. By the time he was a teenager, he had already won several local piano competitions and was considered a prodigy. In 1968, Jean-Paul was accepted into the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied under the renowned pianist and composer, Pierre Sancan. During his time at the conservatory, Jean-Paul honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. He also began to explore other instruments, including the violin and the cello. After graduating from the conservatory in 1972, Jean-Paul embarked on a career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and versatile pianists of his generation. He was equally at home playing the works of Bach and Beethoven as he was performing contemporary pieces by living composers. Jean-Paul's career took off in the 1980s when he began to perform internationally. He played in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of Jean-Paul's career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Vienna Philharmonic in 1987. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Jean-Paul received a standing ovation from the audience. He went on to perform the concerto with several other orchestras, cementing his reputation as one of the world's leading interpreters of Beethoven's music. Jean-Paul was also a prolific recording artist, and he released over 50 albums during his career. His recordings of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy were particularly well-received, and he won several awards for his recordings, including a Grammy Award in 1992 for his recording of Chopin's Nocturnes. In addition to his career as a performer, Jean-Paul was also a respected teacher. He taught at several music schools and conservatories, including the Conservatoire de Paris and the Juilliard School in New York. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as musicians, and Jean-Paul was known for his dedication to his students and his passion for teaching. Jean-Paul received many awards and honors during his career, including the Legion of Honor, France's highest civilian award, in 1998. He was also awarded the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. Sadly, Jean-Paul's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. He continued to perform and teach for as long as he was able, but he passed away on June 15, 2007, at the age of 57. Jean-Paul Boury was a true master of his craft, and his contributions to the world of classical music will be remembered for generations to come.More....
