In 1970, Helge graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music with a degree in piano performance. He immediately began performing in concerts and recitals throughout Denmark and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists in the country. Over the next few years, Helge continued to perform in concerts and recitals throughout Denmark and began to gain international recognition. He won several prestigious awards, including the Carl Nielsen Prize and the Queen Ingrid Foundation's Music Prize. These awards helped to establish him as one of the most important classical music artists of his generation. In 1978, Helge made his debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
