Sally Herbert is a British composer, arranger, and violinist who has made a significant impact on the classical music scene. Born in 1966 in London, Herbert grew up in a musical family and began playing the violin at the age of six. She attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied violin and composition. After completing her studies, Herbert began her career as a freelance musician, performing with various orchestras and ensembles. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and her skills as a composer and arranger soon came to the attention of the music industry. Herbert's first major breakthrough came in the early 1990s when she was asked to arrange strings for the band Oasis. Her work on their hit song "Wonderwall" helped to establish her as a go-to arranger for rock and pop acts. She went on to work with a wide range of artists, including Radiohead, The Verve, and Massive Attack. In addition to her work as an arranger, Herbert continued to perform as a violinist and composer. She formed the string quartet Bond in 2000, which quickly became one of the most popular classical crossover acts in the world. The group's unique blend of classical music and pop sensibilities earned them a large following and numerous awards. Herbert's work with Bond led to many other opportunities in the music industry. She has composed music for film and television, including the score for the hit BBC series "Sherlock." She has also worked as a conductor, leading orchestras in performances of her own compositions as well as classical works. Throughout her career, Herbert has received numerous awards and accolades for her work. In 2001, she won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song for her work on the song "All Mine" by Massive Attack. She has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards for her work with Bond. One of Herbert's most notable achievements came in 2012 when she was asked to arrange the music for the London Olympics opening ceremony. Her work on the ceremony, which included a performance by the London Symphony Orchestra, was widely praised and helped to cement her reputation as one of the most talented and versatile musicians in the industry. Despite her many accomplishments, Herbert remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform, compose, and arrange music, always striving to push the boundaries of what is possible in classical music. Her passion and talent have made her a beloved figure in the music world, and her influence will continue to be felt for many years to come.
