The Amati Ensemble München is a classical music ensemble based in Munich, Germany. The ensemble was founded in 1995 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to explore the rich repertoire of classical music. The founding members of the Amati Ensemble München were violinists Andreas Krecher and Christiane Edinger, violist Ulrich Knörzer, cellist Peter Hörr, and pianist Michael Schäfer. All of the members were accomplished musicians with extensive experience performing in orchestras and chamber ensembles. The ensemble takes its name from the famous Amati family of violin makers, who were active in Cremona, Italy, in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Amati family is renowned for their craftsmanship and their instruments are highly prized by musicians and collectors alike.
