Peter Erskine is a renowned jazz drummer and composer who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on June 5, 1954, in Somers Point, New Jersey, Erskine grew up in a musical family. His father was a professional trumpet player, and his mother was a singer. Erskine started playing the drums at the age of four and was already performing in public by the time he was six. Erskine's early musical education was primarily in jazz, and he was heavily influenced by drummers such as Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, and Max Roach. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where he studied with jazz drummer Ed Thigpen.
