The Russian Virtuosi of Europe is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 by the renowned Russian violinist and conductor, Yuri Zhislin. The ensemble is made up of some of the most talented musicians from across Europe, who come together to perform a wide range of classical music repertoire. Yuri Zhislin, who serves as the ensemble's artistic director and conductor, was born in Moscow in 1973. He began playing the violin at the age of five and went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory, where he was a student of the legendary violinist, Yuri Yankelevich. Zhislin has won numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The Russian Virtuosi of Europe was formed with the aim of bringing together some of the most talented musicians from across Europe to perform together as a cohesive ensemble. The ensemble's members are drawn from a variety of different countries, including Russia, Germany, France, Italy, and the UK, among others. One of the highlights of the Russian Virtuosi of Europe's early career was their performance at the 2005 Edinburgh International Festival. The concert was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and was widely praised for its virtuosic playing and emotional intensity. In addition to their performances, the Russian Virtuosi of Europe has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, released in 2006, featured works by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich and was praised for its "passionate and technically flawless" playing.
