Lowell Hershey was born on May 15, 1965, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Hershey showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. Hershey's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with some of the best teachers in New York City, and by the age of ten, he had already won several local competitions. In 1977, Hershey's family moved to Europe, where he continued his musical education. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he received a scholarship to study with the renowned pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy. Hershey's talent continued to flourish, and he began performing in major concert halls around the world. In 1985, he made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City, where he received critical acclaim for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14. Over the years, Hershey has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. Hershey's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, and he has been praised for his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of Chopin's music. In addition to his performances, Hershey is also a respected teacher and has taught at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York City and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is known for his ability to inspire and motivate his students, and many of his former students have gone on to have successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Hershey has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. In 1992, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. Despite his success, Hershey remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and he is committed to sharing his love of music with others. His passion for music and his dedication to excellence have made him one of the most respected and admired musicians of his generation.
