The Singapore Symphony Youth Choir (SSYC) is a renowned classical music artist that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over two decades. The choir was founded in 2006 as a youth wing of the Singapore Symphony Chorus, with the aim of nurturing young talents and promoting choral music in Singapore. The SSYC comprises of talented young singers aged between 13 and 25 years old, who are selected through a rigorous audition process. The choir is led by conductor and artistic director, Jennifer Tham, who has been instrumental in shaping the choir's sound and style. Since its inception, the SSYC has performed in numerous prestigious venues and events, both locally and internationally. One of the choir's most notable performances was at the opening ceremony of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010, where they performed alongside renowned artists such as Lang Lang and Sarah Brightman. The choir has also collaborated with various orchestras and musicians, including the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vienna Boys' Choir. In 2018, the SSYC performed with the Vienna Boys' Choir in a joint concert that was well-received by audiences and critics alike. The SSYC has also participated in various international choral competitions, where they have consistently achieved outstanding results. In 2014, the choir won the Grand Prix at the 7th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition in Germany, beating over 100 choirs from around the world. The choir also won the Youth Choir category at the 2017 International Choral Kathaumixw in Canada. Apart from their impressive performances, the SSYC is also committed to community outreach and education. The choir regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young singers, and has collaborated with various schools and community groups to promote choral music in Singapore. In 2019, the SSYC celebrated their 13th anniversary with a series of concerts that showcased their versatility and musicality.
