Connie Sheu is a classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a talented and accomplished pianist. Born in Taiwan, Sheu began her musical journey at a young age, showing a natural aptitude for the piano. She went on to study at some of the most prestigious music schools in the world, and has since performed in numerous concerts and competitions, earning critical acclaim and recognition for her exceptional talent. Sheu was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1981. Her parents were both music lovers, and they encouraged her to pursue her passion for the piano from a young age. She began taking lessons when she was just four years old, and quickly showed a remarkable talent for the instrument. Sheu's parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the Taipei National University of the Arts, where she studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Ching-Yun Hu. After completing her studies in Taiwan, Sheu moved to the United States to further her education. She enrolled at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she studied with renowned pianist and teacher, Leon Fleisher. Sheu's time at Peabody was a formative period in her musical development, and she credits Fleisher with helping her to refine her technique and develop her own unique style. In 2005, Sheu graduated from Peabody with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance. She then went on to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan, where she studied with renowned pianist and teacher, Logan Skelton. Sheu's time at Michigan was marked by numerous accomplishments, including winning the school's prestigious Concerto Competition in 2007. Throughout her studies, Sheu also participated in numerous competitions and festivals, earning recognition for her exceptional talent and skill. In 2003, she won first prize in the Taiwan National Piano Competition, and in 2004, she was a finalist in the San Antonio International Piano Competition. She has also participated in the Tanglewood Music Center, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Banff Centre for the Arts, among others. Since completing her studies, Sheu has established herself as a sought-after performer, known for her technical prowess and expressive playing. She has performed in numerous concerts and recitals throughout the United States and abroad, earning critical acclaim and recognition for her exceptional talent. Some of her most notable performances include a solo recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in 2010, and a performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in 2012. In addition to her performing career, Sheu is also an accomplished teacher and mentor. She has taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Toledo, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, among others. She is known for her patient and supportive teaching style, and has helped to inspire and guide numerous young musicians in their own musical journeys. Throughout her career, Sheu has earned numerous awards and accolades for her exceptional talent and skill. In 2009, she was awarded the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award, which recognizes exceptional young pianists who show great promise for the future. She has also been a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship, the Presser Foundation Award, and the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship, among others.More....
