Atalanta Fugiens is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for Baroque music. The ensemble is named after the famous alchemical emblem book of the same name, which was published in 1617 by Michael Maier. The founding members of Atalanta Fugiens were violinist and artistic director, Amandine Beyer, cellist, Marco Ceccato, and harpsichordist, Andrea Marchiol. They were later joined by other talented musicians, including flutist, Jed Wentz, and violist, Hélène Schmitt. Atalanta Fugiens has gained a reputation for their innovative and dynamic performances of Baroque music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The ensemble has performed at major music festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, including the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Bachfest Leipzig, and the Wigmore Hall in London. One of the highlights of Atalanta Fugiens' career was their performance of Bach's complete Brandenburg Concertos at the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht in 2012. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their interpretation of the works, with reviewers praising their "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." Atalanta Fugiens has also been recognized for their recordings of Baroque music. Their recording of Bach's Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord, which was released in 2010, received widespread critical acclaim and was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or.
