Role:Conductor PerformerAdam Sliwinski is a renowned percussionist and composer in the world of classical music. Born on May 22, 1978, in New York City, Sliwinski grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist. Sliwinski started playing the piano at the age of five and later switched to percussion when he was in high school. Sliwinski attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance. He then went on to pursue his Master of Music degree at Yale University, where he studied with Robert van Sice. During his time at Yale, Sliwinski was a member of the Yale Percussion Group, which won the prestigious Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition in 2003. After completing his studies, Sliwinski became a member of the renowned new music ensemble, So Percussion. The group was founded in 1999 by Sliwinski and his fellow Yale classmates, and they quickly gained recognition for their innovative and dynamic performances. So Percussion has since performed at major venues and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Barbican Centre, and the Edinburgh International Festival. As a member of So Percussion, Sliwinski has collaborated with a wide range of composers and performers, including Steve Reich, David Lang, Bryce Dessner, and Shara Nova. The group has also commissioned and premiered numerous works by emerging and established composers, such as Caroline Shaw, John Luther Adams, and Paul Lansky. In addition to his work with So Percussion, Sliwinski has also pursued a solo career as a performer and composer. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
