Jarmila Mihalikova was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1938, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. She was a pianist and a music educator who dedicated her life to the art of music. Her passion for music started at a young age, and she began playing the piano when she was only six years old. Mihalikova's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music. She attended the Bratislava Conservatory, where she studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Ludovit Rajter. She graduated with honors in 1957 and continued her studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In 1960, Mihalikova won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. This was a significant achievement for her, and it marked the beginning of her successful career as a pianist. She went on to win several other awards, including the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1961. Mihalikova's talent as a pianist was recognized worldwide, and she was invited to perform in many prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. She also performed with many renowned orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Mihalikova's most memorable performances was her rendition of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor Concerto," with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in 1968. Her performance was praised by critics and audiences alike, and it cemented her reputation as one of the greatest pianists of her time. In addition to her successful career as a performer, Mihalikova was also a dedicated music educator. She taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Bratislava Conservatory, where she inspired and mentored many young musicians. Mihalikova's contributions to the world of classical music were recognized with many awards and honors. She was awarded the title of Merited Artist of Czechoslovakia in 1970 and was later awarded the Order of the White Double Cross, the highest state award in Slovakia, in 2003. Mihalikova continued to perform and teach until her death on December 29, 2012, in Bratislava, Slovakia. Her legacy as a pianist and music educator lives on, and she remains an inspiration to many young musicians around the world.
