Role:EnsemblePeriod:RomanticModernGenre:ConcertoOrchestralSymphonyCento Soli Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is made up of some of the most talented and accomplished musicians in the city. The founding members of Cento Soli Orchestra were violinists Sarah Whitney and Miki-Sophia Cloud, violist Jessica Meyer, cellist Michael Katz, and pianist Adam Golka. All of these musicians had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. The name "Cento Soli" means "one hundred suns" in Italian, and it reflects the ensemble's commitment to bringing together a diverse group of musicians to create a unique and vibrant sound. The ensemble's repertoire includes works from the classical and contemporary canon, as well as new and lesser-known works by living composers. Since its founding, Cento Soli Orchestra has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. The ensemble has also toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, performing in major cities such as Paris, London, and Berlin. One of the highlights of Cento Soli Orchestra's career was their performance at the 2017 Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center. The ensemble performed Mozart's Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, K. 478, with pianist Adam Golka. The performance was widely praised for its energy, precision, and musicality, and it cemented Cento Soli Orchestra's reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber ensembles in the country. In addition to their performances, Cento Soli Orchestra has also been recognized for their recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "Cento Soli," was released in 2017 and features works by Mozart, Brahms, and contemporary composer Nico Muhly. The album received critical acclaim and was named one of the best classical albums of the year by NPR. Cento Soli Orchestra has also been recognized for their commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and they have developed a number of educational programs that introduce young people to classical music. The ensemble's members also serve as faculty members at some of the most prestigious music schools in the country, including the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Overall, Cento Soli Orchestra is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is dedicated to bringing classical music to new audiences. With their virtuosic playing, diverse repertoire, and commitment to education and outreach, they are sure to continue making an impact on the classical music world for years to come.More....
