Katharine Pardee was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Pardee showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Pardee's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking private lessons with renowned violinists and attended the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division. At the age of 16, Pardee was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with renowned violinist Ida Kavafian. During her time at Curtis, Pardee won several awards and competitions, including the Philadelphia Orchestra's Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition and the Aspen Music Festival's Violin Concerto Competition. She also performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. After graduating from Curtis, Pardee continued her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she earned a Master of Music degree. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, Germany, as a Fulbright Scholar. Pardee's career as a soloist and chamber musician took off after she won the prestigious Naumburg International Violin Competition in 2010. The competition, which has been held since 1926, is one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world and has launched the careers of many famous musicians, including Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. As the winner of the Naumburg Competition, Pardee was awarded a prize of $25,000 and a series of recitals in New York City's prestigious Carnegie Hall. She also received a recording contract with the Naxos label and released her debut album, featuring works by Bach, Ysaÿe, and Bartók, in 2012. Pardee has since performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also appeared at major music festivals, such as the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Ravinia Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. In addition to her solo career, Pardee is also an active chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri String Quartet, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Pardee's playing has been praised for its technical brilliance, musicality, and emotional depth. She is known for her ability to bring out the unique character of each piece she plays, whether it is a virtuosic showpiece or a lyrical ballad. In recognition of her achievements, Pardee has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to the Naumburg Competition, she has won the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, and the S&R Washington Award. She has also been named a BBC New Generation Artist and a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's CMS Two program. Despite her success, Pardee remains dedicated to her craft and continues to push herself to new heights. She is constantly seeking out new challenges and opportunities to grow as a musician, and her passion for music is evident in every note she plays.
