Pori Sinfonietta is a classical music ensemble based in Pori, Finland. The orchestra was founded in 1975 by a group of musicians who wanted to create a new kind of chamber orchestra that would be able to perform a wide range of music, from classical to contemporary. The founding members of the orchestra included musicians from the Pori City Orchestra, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The first conductor of the orchestra was Jorma Panula, who was also the conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra at the time. Over the years, Pori Sinfonietta has become one of the most respected chamber orchestras in Finland, known for its high-quality performances and innovative programming. The orchestra has also gained international recognition, performing in countries such as Germany, France, and the United States. One of the highlights of Pori Sinfonietta's history was the appointment of Jan Söderblom as the orchestra's artistic director and principal conductor in 2011. In 2014, the orchestra was awarded the Finnish State Prize for Music, one of the country's highest honors for musicians.
