Gordon Sandison was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on 12th June 1950 in Edinburgh, Scotland. From a young age, Sandison showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Sandison attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Peter Evans. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1972 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Royal College of Music in London. During his time at the Royal College of Music, Sandison won several awards and accolades for his exceptional talent. He was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship, which enabled him to study with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, in Portugal. After completing his studies, Sandison embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. He was known for his exceptional technique, musicality, and ability to connect with his audience. One of Sandison's most significant performances was at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1985. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was widely acclaimed, and Sandison received a standing ovation from the audience. Sandison also performed extensively in Europe, Asia, and the United States, collaborating with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Sandison was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at several prestigious music schools, including the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the Royal College of Music, and the Juilliard School in New York. Throughout his career, Sandison received numerous awards and accolades for his exceptional talent and contribution to the world of music. In 1992, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to music. He was also awarded the prestigious Chopin Medal by the Polish government in recognition of his outstanding interpretations of Chopin's music. Sadly, Sandison passed away on 15th August 2005, at the age of 55, after a long battle with cancer.
