Accademia Amiata Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1987 in the Tuscan town of Castel del Piano, Italy. The ensemble is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music, as well as its collaborations with contemporary composers. The founding members of Accademia Amiata Ensemble were a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music and historical performance practices. They were inspired by the work of pioneering ensembles such as the Academy of Ancient Music and the English Concert, and sought to bring a similar level of authenticity and vitality to their own performances. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone several changes in membership, but has remained committed to its original mission of exploring the rich and diverse repertoire of early music. Today, the core members of the ensemble are violinist and artistic director Cristiano Rossi, cellist and co-artistic director Marco Ceccato, and harpsichordist and organist Luca Guglielmi. Accademia Amiata Ensemble has performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and has collaborated with many of the leading figures in the early music world. Some of the ensemble's most notable performances include appearances at the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Boston Early Music Festival, and the Tage Alter Musik festival in Regensburg. In addition to its live performances, Accademia Amiata Ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. These include a series of albums devoted to the music of Antonio Vivaldi, as well as recordings of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and other composers of the Baroque era. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was its participation in the recording of the complete works of Antonio Vivaldi for the Naïve label. This ambitious project involved recording over 450 works by the composer, and took several years to complete. The resulting recordings were widely praised for their virtuosity, energy, and attention to detail. Accademia Amiata Ensemble has also been the recipient of several awards and honors over the years. In 1995, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is considered one of the highest honors in the Italian classical music world. The award recognized the ensemble's contributions to the revival of early music and its commitment to historical performance practices. In addition to its performances and recordings, Accademia Amiata Ensemble is also involved in educational activities. The ensemble regularly conducts masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has been involved in several educational projects aimed at introducing children to the world of classical music. Overall, Accademia Amiata Ensemble is a highly respected and influential ensemble in the world of early music. Its commitment to historical performance practices, combined with its virtuosity and energy, have made it a favorite among audiences and critics alike. With its continued dedication to exploring the rich and diverse repertoire of early music, the ensemble is sure to remain a major force in the classical music world for years to come.
