Role:PerformerEric Sleichim is a Belgian musician, composer, and conductor who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on May 28, 1958, in Leuven, Belgium, Sleichim grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Sleichim showed a keen interest in music and began playing the saxophone at the age of 12. Sleichim studied music at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, where he received a degree in saxophone performance. He then went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he earned a degree in composition. During his studies, Sleichim was exposed to a wide range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, and contemporary music. After completing his studies, Sleichim began his career as a saxophonist, performing with various ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe. In 1987, he founded the contemporary music ensemble BL!NDMAN, which quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach to classical music. The ensemble consisted of four saxophonists who performed a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary music. Over the years, BL!NDMAN has collaborated with numerous composers and performers, including Steve Reich, Louis Andriessen, and Michael Nyman. The ensemble has also performed at major festivals and venues around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Berliner Festspiele, and the Sydney Opera House. In addition to his work with BL!NDMAN, Sleichim has also established himself as a composer and conductor. He has written numerous works for various ensembles and orchestras, including the Brussels Philharmonic and the National Orchestra of Belgium. His compositions are known for their innovative use of sound and instrumentation, and often incorporate elements of jazz and world music. Sleichim has also conducted a wide range of orchestras and ensembles, including the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic.
