Born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1953, Tanyel began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She went on to study at the Istanbul State Conservatory, where she received a rigorous education in classical music and developed her skills as a performer. After completing her studies in Istanbul, Tanyel moved to London to continue her musical education. She enrolled at the Royal College of Music, where she studied with renowned pianist Kendall Taylor. Under Taylor's guidance, Tanyel honed her technique and developed a deep understanding of the classical repertoire. She also began to perform regularly, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Tanyel's talent and hard work soon began to pay off. In 1976, she won first prize at the prestigious Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, Spain. This victory brought her international recognition and opened the door to many new performance opportunities. Tanyel went on to perform at some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Throughout her career, Tanyel has been celebrated for her interpretations of the works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. She is particularly known for her ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of these pieces, and for her technical mastery of the piano.
