Role:EnsembleQuartetto Sandro Materassi is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 in Florence, Italy. The quartet is named after Sandro Materassi, a renowned Italian violinist who was a member of the Quartetto Italiano, one of the most famous string quartets of the 20th century. The founding members of Quartetto Sandro Materassi were violinists Marco Fiorini and Andrea Maffei, violist Andrea Scacchi, and cellist Francesco Massimino. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in various orchestras and chamber music ensembles before coming together to form Quartetto Sandro Materassi. Since its founding, Quartetto Sandro Materassi has become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber music ensembles in Italy and beyond. The quartet has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. One of the highlights of Quartetto Sandro Materassi's career was their performance at the 2008 Salzburg Festival, where they played Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131. The performance was widely praised by critics and established the quartet as a major force in the world of classical music. In addition to their performances, Quartetto Sandro Materassi has also won numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their 2010 recording of Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, "Death and the Maiden," was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or, one of the highest honors in the classical music world. The quartet's repertoire is diverse and includes works by some of the greatest composers in the history of classical music, including Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, and Brahms. They are also known for their interpretations of lesser-known works by composers such as Luigi Boccherini and Franz Schreker. Quartetto Sandro Materassi has undergone some changes in its membership over the years. In 2012, violist Andrea Scacchi left the quartet and was replaced by Danilo Rossi, who had previously been the principal violist of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Despite these changes, Quartetto Sandro Materassi has continued to thrive and maintain its reputation as one of the finest chamber music ensembles in the world. Their commitment to excellence and their passion for classical music have made them a beloved fixture in the international music scene.More....
