Role:EnsembleEnsemble of the Classic Era is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for performing music from the classical era. The ensemble is based in Vienna, Austria, and is known for its authentic and historically informed performances of music from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The founding members of Ensemble of the Classic Era were all accomplished musicians who had previously performed with other ensembles and orchestras. They came together with the goal of creating a group that would specialize in the music of the classical era, and that would use period instruments and historically informed performance practices to bring this music to life. The main members of the ensemble have changed over the years, but the group has always been led by its artistic director and principal violinist, Wolfgang Redik. Redik is a highly respected musician who has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. He is known for his expertise in the music of the classical era, and for his commitment to performing this music in a historically informed way. Other key members of the ensemble have included cellist Martin Rummel, who has been with the group since its early days, and harpsichordist Gerald Hambitzer, who joined the ensemble in 2005. The ensemble has also worked with a number of guest artists over the years, including renowned soloists such as pianist Andreas Staier and violinist Midori Seiler. Ensemble of the Classic Era has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia, and has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading ensembles for the performance of classical era music. The group has performed at many of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was its performance of Mozart's complete violin concertos at the Salzburg Festival in 2006. This was a major undertaking, as it involved performing all five of Mozart's violin concertos over the course of two concerts. The ensemble's performances were widely praised for their virtuosity and musicality, and the group received a standing ovation from the audience. Another notable performance by Ensemble of the Classic Era was its 2010 concert at the Musikverein in Vienna, which featured a program of music by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. This concert was particularly significant because it marked the ensemble's 10th anniversary, and was a celebration of the group's achievements over the past decade. Ensemble of the Classic Era has also been recognized for its recordings, which have received critical acclaim and won several awards. The group's recording of Mozart's violin concertos, which was released in 2007, was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by several major publications, including Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine. In addition to its performances and recordings, Ensemble of the Classic Era is also committed to education and outreach. The group has worked with young musicians through its masterclasses and workshops, and has also performed for school groups and other community organizations. The ensemble believes that classical music is for everyone, and is dedicated to sharing its love of this music with as many people as possible.More....
