Nat Simon was an American composer and pianist who was born on June 25, 1900, in New York City. He was the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants and grew up in a musical family. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a singer. Nat Simon started playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. As a teenager, Nat Simon played in jazz bands and worked as a pianist in nightclubs. He also studied music at the Juilliard School in New York City. In the 1920s, he started working as a composer and arranger for Broadway shows. He wrote music for several successful musicals, including "The Little Show" and "The Band Wagon." In the 1930s, Nat Simon moved to Hollywood and started working in the film industry. He wrote music for several movies, including "The Big Broadcast of 1936" and "The Big Broadcast of 1937." He also worked as a pianist and arranger for popular singers, such as Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Nat Simon's most famous composition is "Poinciana," which he wrote in 1936. The song became a hit and has since been recorded by many artists, including Glenn Miller, Benny Carter, and Ahmad Jamal. "Poinciana" is a Latin jazz standard and is known for its catchy melody and exotic rhythms. Nat Simon also wrote several other popular songs, including "My Old Flame," "That's Why I Love You," and "The Night We Called It a Day." He was known for his ability to write memorable melodies and his skill as an arranger. In addition to his work as a composer and arranger, Nat Simon was also a talented pianist. He recorded several albums as a solo artist and played with jazz musicians such as Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. Nat Simon died on March 31, 1979, in Los Angeles, California. He was 78 years old.
