Solungga Fang-Tzu Liu is a Taiwanese-American pianist and composer who has made a name for herself in the classical music world. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1975, Liu began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent early on and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Liu's family moved to the United States when she was eight years old, and she continued her piano studies with renowned teachers such as Nelita True and Leon Fleisher. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, and her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Juilliard School in New York City. Liu's career as a performer began to take off in the early 2000s, when she won several prestigious competitions, including the Artists International Competition, the Juilliard Concerto Competition, and the International Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev Piano Competition. She also received the William Petschek Piano Debut Award, which allowed her to make her debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in 2002. Since then, Liu has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in venues around the world, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. She has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist Cho-Liang Lin, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and the Emerson String Quartet.
