He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was deeply involved in music. From a young age, Liebl showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of six. Liebl's musical education began at the Munich Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned violinist and pedagogue, Carl Flesch. He later continued his studies at the Vienna Academy of Music, where he studied with the legendary violinist, Fritz Kreisler. In 1943, Liebl made his debut as a soloist with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3. This performance marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career as a soloist and chamber musician. Throughout his career, Liebl performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Sir Georg Solti. One of Liebl's most notable performances was his 1955 performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. This performance was widely praised by critics and cemented Liebl's reputation as one of the world's leading violinists. Liebl was also a prolific recording artist, having recorded over 50 albums throughout his career. His recordings of the works of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven are considered to be some of the finest interpretations of these works ever recorded. In addition to his solo career, Liebl was also a dedicated chamber musician. He was a founding member of the Liebl Quartet, which was widely regarded as one of the finest string quartets of its time. The quartet performed together for over 20 years and recorded many acclaimed albums. Throughout his career, Liebl received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1963, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, one of the country's highest honors. He was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria in 1973. Liebl retired from performing in 1985, but continued to be active in the music world as a teacher and mentor to young musicians. He passed away on December 28, 2006, at the age of 83.
