He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Blezard began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. He went on to study at the Royal Manchester College of Music, where he received a scholarship to study composition. Blezard's early career was focused on conducting and arranging music for radio and television. He worked for the BBC as a conductor and arranger, and his work was featured on many popular programs, including "The Goon Show" and "Hancock's Half Hour." He also composed music for television shows, such as "The Avengers" and "The Prisoner." In the 1960s, Blezard began to focus more on composing classical music. He wrote a number of works for orchestra, including his "Concerto for Orchestra," which was premiered by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 1966. He also wrote chamber music, including his "String Quartet No. 1," which was premiered by the Aeolian Quartet in 1968. One of Blezard's most famous works is his "Piano Concerto," which was premiered by the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1970. The concerto is a virtuosic work that showcases the pianist's technical abilities. It has been performed by many of the world's leading pianists, including John Ogdon and Peter Donohoe. Blezard was also known for his vocal music. He wrote a number of choral works, including his "Requiem," which was premiered by the Huddersfield Choral Society in 1972.
