Piet Kuijken is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music. Born in Belgium in 1947, Kuijken grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Wieland Kuijken, was a renowned cellist, while his mother, Francine, was a harpsichordist. His siblings, Sigiswald and Barthold, are also accomplished musicians. Kuijken began his musical journey at a young age, learning to play the violin and the piano. However, it was the harpsichord that captured his heart, and he began to focus on mastering the instrument. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he was taught by Gustav Leonhardt, a renowned harpsichordist and conductor. After completing his studies, Kuijken began to perform professionally, quickly establishing himself as a talented and versatile musician. He performed with various orchestras and ensembles, including the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, the Collegium Aureum, and the Kuijken String Quartet, which he founded with his brothers. Kuijken's performances were characterized by his technical proficiency, musical sensitivity, and deep understanding of the music he played. He was particularly known for his interpretations of Baroque music, which he approached with a deep respect for the historical context in which it was created. Over the course of his career, Kuijken has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including Frans Brüggen, Ton Koopman, and Philippe Herreweghe. In 1991, he was awarded the Prix de l'Académie du Disque Français for his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations.
