Yuri Liberzon is a classical guitarist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical guitar repertoire. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1980, Liberzon began playing guitar at the age of six under the guidance of his father, a professional guitarist and teacher. Liberzon's family immigrated to Israel when he was nine years old, and he continued his musical studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He later moved to the United States to pursue his education, earning a Bachelor of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. Throughout his career, Liberzon has won numerous awards and accolades for his performances and recordings. In 2008, he was a prize winner at the Portland International Guitar Competition, and in 2010 he won first prize at the Alexander Frauchi International Guitar Competition in Moscow. He has also been a finalist in several other prestigious competitions, including the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition and the Parkening International Guitar Competition. Liberzon has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, appearing as a soloist with orchestras such as the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, and the Yale Philharmonia. He has also given recitals at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Moscow International House of Music. In addition to his performing career, Liberzon is also an active educator and has taught at several institutions, including the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Southern California. He has also released several instructional videos and written articles for guitar publications. Liberzon's repertoire spans a wide range of styles and periods, from the Baroque works of Bach and Scarlatti to contemporary compositions by living composers. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Spanish and Latin American music, and has recorded several albums featuring works by composers such as Joaquín Rodrigo, Manuel Ponce, and Leo Brouwer. One of Liberzon's most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2014, where he performed a program of works by Bach, Scarlatti, and Brouwer. The New York Times praised his "impeccable technique and musicality," and noted that he "played with a sense of ease and fluidity that made the music seem effortless." Another highlight of Liberzon's career was his performance of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra in 2016. The concert was broadcast on Russian television and received widespread acclaim, with critics praising Liberzon's "sensitive and nuanced" interpretation of the concerto. Liberzon's recordings have also received critical acclaim, with his album "Ascension" being named one of the top classical guitar recordings of 2015 by Classical Guitar Magazine. The album features works by Bach, Ponce, and Brouwer, as well as several original compositions by Liberzon. In addition to his performing and teaching activities, Liberzon is also a dedicated advocate for the classical guitar and has worked to promote the instrument through outreach programs and collaborations with other musicians.More....
