The choir was founded in 1957 by conductor Klaus Knall and has since become one of the most renowned choirs in Germany. The choir consists of around 40 members, all of whom are highly trained singers with a passion for classical music. The members come from all over Germany and are selected through a rigorous audition process. Over the years, Solistenchor Freiburg has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Germany and around the world. The choir has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world. One of the highlights of the choir's career was their performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2000. The performance was conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and featured some of the most talented musicians in the world. In addition to their performances, Solistenchor Freiburg has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2010, the choir won the German Choir Competition, which is considered one of the most prestigious choir competitions in the world. The choir's repertoire is diverse and includes works from a variety of composers and time periods. Some of their most popular performances include works by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.
